R.E.S.T. (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy) is the modern term for what was originally called an ‘isolation’ or ‘sensory deprivation’ tank. Later research showed it was a complete sensory experience of beneficial psycho-physiological effects, so the name was changed to better describe the phenomenon. The term describes a place where the level of environmental sensory inputs is purposely kept extremely low.Today, there are both wet and dry R.E.S.T. facilities.Â
